In fact, the whole show may actually be a metaphor for our existence. We live in a prison controlled by the Illuminati where they call the shots, and there's nothing we can do. Instead, we struggle for scraps and endure incessant brainwashing. Like the prisoners in the show, we have no control over our lives, and what we think can be easily manipulated.
Take the character, Piper, for example. She starts the show as an engaged upper-middle class citizen who got busted for a mistake from her ancient past. Being sent to prison destroys her character. She renews her lesbianism, which had also been in her past, and gets involved in gang activity. In the end, she has become total convict all due to the prison environment. That's what the Illuminati seeks to do, imprison our minds and destroy them. Shows like OITNB are just another means at their disposal to ruin morality and create a depraved population.
